Description
NOTES FROM THE RARE BOOK ROOM SPECIALIST:
Printed by Jonathan Cape in 1928, this is the premiere work in lesbian literature in English.
Born Marguerite Antonia Radclyffe Hall in 1880, she was an heiress who had enough
money to live as she pleased. Of her eight novels published, “The Well of Loneliness” is
the best known, possibly because of the notoriety attached to us due to the obscenity trial in
the UK – after which all copies were ordered to be destroyed.
Condition:
Cloth rubbed & worn, with loss at head, tail of spine. Scratches, loss & wear to front board, rear board rubbed & scratched. Pencil notation to front free endpaper. Text is age-toned, occasionally stained. Rear hinge broken.
