One of the best books I have ever read. I had never read Neil Gaiman before picking up this book, but now I want to read all his work. It's an incredible story in such a small book. The book puts you right where Coraline is and makes you really, truly feel every emotion, every anxiety. Even if you know what's going to happen next, you'll still find your heart racing. A great start for any young scare fanatic or a perfect addition for a seasoned horror devotee. Recommended By Aster A., Powells.com
Synopses & Reviews
A chilling and charming children’s debut from a New York Times best-selling author.
When Coraline steps through the locked door in her family’s new flat, she finds a world which caters to her every whim. But when she wants to leave, things turn very unpleasant, very quickly. To save other trapped children, to save her parents, and to save herself, Coraline must fight with all her wits and courage in a tale of good and evil that will enchant young readers.
Acclaimed author Neil Gaiman is a master of inventive fiction. His previous novels have all been best-sellers, most recently American Gods, a New York Times best-seller. His many awards include, for Stardust, the ALA’s ALEX Award as one of the ten best adult titles of 2000 for young adults. Now, in Coraline, his first novel for children, Neil Gaiman takes readers over the threshold of imagination.
Review
"[A]n electrifyingly creepy tale likely to haunt young readers for many moons....Gaiman twines his taught tale with a menacing tone and crisp prose fraught with memorable imagery...yet keeps the narrative just this side of terrifying....McKean's scratchy, angular drawings...add an ominous edge that helps ensure this book will be a real bedtime-buster." Publishers Weekly (starred and boxed review)
Review
"Delicate and extraordinary, it reads like Alice in Wonderland crossed with Stephen King..." The Independent (U.K.)
