NOTES FROM THE RARE BOOK ROOM SPECIALIST:
First edition. Hugo Gellert (1892 – 1985) was a Hungarian-American painter, author, and
dedicated Communist. Art and politics were his joined passions. In 1932 the Museum of
Modern Art proposed that his art be removed from its collection – his fellow artists
defended Gellert; today the MoMA website lists 107 pieces for Hugo Gellert.
Condition:
Light wear & some fading to cloth at extremities. Occasional soiling to text & plates. Staples showing through rear endpapers at hinge. Damp staining to rear board at tail. Dust jacket rubbed, toned & chipped, with loss to panels, spine & folds.
