Synopsis
Andre Ruyters (1876-1952) est une figure bien oubliee de la litterature europeenne. Si l'on se souvient qu'il co-fonda La Nouvelle Revue francaise, c'est a peine si l'on sait encore qu'il fut aussi ecrivain. Pourtant, de 1895 a 1907, ce Bruxellois, entre en litterature a dix-neuf ans, a entrecroise ses oeuvres a celles d'Andre Gide (1869-1951) pour donner naissance a un riche dialogue litteraire. Le present ouvrage tente d'en mettre en evidence la singularite et d'en comprendre l'evolution, a la lumiere de la correspondance echangee entre les deux hommes. Par sa triple approche textuelle, biographique et psychologique, il cherche a analyser le role que Gide a joue dans la formation de Ruyters ecrivain, et dans le developpement de ses oeuvres. Cet essai se veut une contribution a la connaissance d'un auteur quelque peu oublie appartenant a une epoque ou la correspondance litteraire etait particulierement riche et vivante, et de l'histoire de la litterature francophone de Belgique au tournant du XXeme siecle.
